You are here: Get Involved » Local Groups
The county has a large number of local history and archaeology groups and each have a range of events throughout the year. Every town and a large number of villages have their local groups, each interested in both the local and wider historical issues. New members and visitors are always welcome to listen to single talks or join for the year. Some groups also undertake historical research or get involved in archaeological study of their area as part of the society. You will find a local group near you by consulting the Contact list of Oxfordshire Local History and Archaeology Societies. A calendar of events, combining information from many of the local societies can be viewed in the Calendar of History and Archaeology events in Oxfordshire section of this website.
The Oxfordshire Local History Association (OLHA) is the umbrella group for many local history societies.
Other groups, such as the Banbury Historical Society or The Wallingford Historical & Archaeological Society (TWHAS) encourage interest not only in their respective towns but also the neighbouring sub-region of the county.
